The JD program is pleased to provide a range of support options for students who wish to further develop their academic skills for studying law.

The Language and Academic Skills Adviser, Dr Anthony McCosker, can help you to develop your legal writing and communication skills and provide strategies for study, time and task management.

Surviving Seminars
An online introduction to the teaching and learning style of the Law School, and to the academic skills needed for successful study in Law.

Legal Academic Writing Resources
This extensive online resource explains the requirements for academic legal writing at Melbourne law school. Detailed pages guide you through the process of writing legal research essays, case notes, hypothetical problem answers and exam writing. Samples of student writing are also provided, along with explanatory comments. [Requires University email username and password to login]

This collection of useful print and online resources is a great starting point for developing your academic and communication skills. 

Consultation Service

The Language and Academic Skills Adviser provides individual consultations in the Law School. Consultations aim to develop research and writing skills and provide strategies for study, time and task management. They are available to all students wishing to improve their language and academic skills. Appointments can be made through the Law Student Centre.
