Instructions for Enrolment
1. JD Compulsory Subjects
Compulsory subjects will be automatically loaded for each student on the portal from 26 October 2009. Students must check that these subjects are correct in respect to their course plan. If an error is identified, students should amend this immediately within the student portal.
2. Applying for Melbourne Law Masters Electives
Students will be unable to select Melbourne Law Masters (MLM) elective subjects on the portal. Instead, students are required to apply for these subjects on-line.
It is important to note the following regarding the application process for MLM electives:
Applications for MLM subjects once submitted on-line will be received by the Student Centre (Mezzanine). Applications will be forwarded to the Associate Dean along with the applicant's academic history for consideration. The Associate Dean will take into account an applicant's suitability for the subject based on their academic and professional background as well as their JD results and course plan. Timing of the subject and its assessment in relation to the JD academic calendar will also be taken into account.
If a student's application is supported by the Associate Dean it will be forwarded to the MLM office (Level 6), otherwise the student will be notified at this point that they need to make alternative selection/s.
If a student's application has proceeded to the MLM Office, it will be considered for enrolment based on the current waitlist for the subject in accordance with MLM policy. Quotas apply to MLM subjects. After MLM priority enrolments have been administered, JD students on the waitlist will be admitted to a subject on a first come, first served basis. In other words, priority will not be given to one JD student over another except on a first come, first served basis. Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via email.
If an alternative subject has been registered on the on-line subject application form, and it is not possible to enrol the student into their preferred subject selection, the alternative will also be assessed for enrolment. If it is possible to do so, the student will be enrolled into their alternative selection. The student will remain on the waitlist for their preferred selection and will be contacted by the MLM Office (Level 6) should a place become available. Students are asked to make their selections carefully, including nomination of alternative subjects. Students may change their selection/s on-line via the JD website up until they have been enrolled in the subject.
When enrolled in an MLM subject, students will be notified by email. Students who wish to withdraw from a subject must follow procedures for withdrawal and use the Application for Subject Withdrawal Form. Please be aware of subject census dates regarding withdrawal (and the fees that result if seeking to discontinue after the census date has passed). Melbourne Law Masters course rules apply to JD students in relation to MLM subjects including rules pertaining to enrolment and assessment.
Students will be unable to select JD elective subjects on the portal. Instead, students are required to apply for these subjects on-line.

Students will be assessed for JD elective subjects based on expected completion date and then on a first come, first served basis as quotas apply to JD elective subjects.
