Commonwealth Supported Places

Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia and citizens of New Zealand are automatically considered for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) when they submit their application for the Melbourne JD.

From 2008, 50 percent of places available to Australian students in the Melbourne JD will be Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs).  Of these, a minimum of 20 percent will be awarded on access and equity grounds under Graduate Access Melbourne (see below).  The remaining CSPs will be awarded on the basis of published selection criteria.

Information about CSPs

As a Commonwealth Supported student your tuition costs are subsidised by the Government.  Students who commence study in a Commonwealth Supported Place at the University of Melbourne in 2009 will pay the student contribution amounts by subjects in the disciplines and courses.  Details of student contribution amounts are available online.

Assistance with student contribution amounts (CSP students)

Australian citizens and students who hold a permanent humanitarian visa who will be resident in Australia for the duration of the unit can apply for HECS-HELP. HECS-HELP helps students pay their student contribution for unit(s) of study in which they are enrolled as a CSP student.

Assistance with fees (Full Fee Students)

Australian citizens and students who hold a permanent humanitarian visa who will be resident in Australia for the duration of the unit can apply for FEE-HELP. FEE-HELP is a loan scheme that assists eligible students to pay their tuition fees. The FEE-Help Lifetime loan limit in 2009 is $83,313.00. The FEE-HELP loan fee of 20% does not apply to Melbourne JD students (applies to undergraduate courses of study only).
