Student Orientation
Melbourne Law School is committed to ensuring our new students make a smooth transition to the study of law at graduate level.
All new Melbourne JD students take part in an exciting program of activities to give them a taste of what studying with us will be like and ensure they are well prepared to begin their course.
The Melbourne JD 2008 cohort’s intense two day orientation program included an introduction to the expectations of graduate law students, welcomes from the staff and from student organisations and a tour of the Law School’s magnificent, purpose built law building.
Incoming students also met members of the Law School’s established research teams, who focus on fields as far ranging as bio-ethics, communications law and human rights, to facilitate collaboration in the future.
New students in 2008 were also fortunate to begin their graduate law school experience in the Federal Court, with a lecture from the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, the Honourable Michael Black AC. For the very first time in their legal careers, new students visited Melbourne’s legal precinct and had the chance to meet with past Melbourne JD graduates, who warmly offered their assistance and support to the new kids on the block.
