What motivated you to pursue studying law?
I was interested in the law through its strict adherence to logical analysis and proof, and the intellectual challenge this presents. I also appreciate the wide range of opportunities available to law graduates.
Why did you choose to take the Melbourne JD?
Primarily, I was attracted by the graduate cohort, which has lived up to my expectation of bringing together dedicated, motivated and high achieving students. With its emphasis on small classes and seminar-based learning, the Melbourne JD is the best graduate-only law degree in Australia.
Why did you choose the Melbourne Law School?
The Melbourne Law School has a reputation of producing some of the best and most committed law graduates in Australia. The quality of Melbourne’s academic staff is second-to-none. The school itself has excellent facilities, all located within the one building. And, Melbourne is a great place to live.
Describe your experience of the Melbourne JD to date. What have been the highlights so far?
Getting to know a small group of dedicated and committed individuals has been both motivating and inspiring. The classroom atmosphere is always supportive, and is a great environment for learning. I have also enjoyed the opportunities available outside of class, such as the diverse range of public lectures that are consistently interesting and relevant. I am a member of the 2008-2009 ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO law, which involves traveling, meeting and competing against high achieving students from universities around the world, and focused study in an area of law outside the general curriculum.
What are you planning to do when you have completed your degree?
I plan to join a commercial law firm to complete articles and take the opportunity to work overseas. Eventually I plan to work in the public service or, perhaps, academia.
What advice do you have for others considering taking the Melbourne JD at the University of Melbourne?
The workload can be very difficult, so prepare for long hours and hard work. However, the cohort environment is always supportive and motivating, making the experience consistently rewarding. I would recommend the degree to any motivated graduate student interested in the law.
