Emma Ladakis (Australia)

Having decided to pursue the study of law as a mature aged student, the Melbourne JD offered everything I was looking for in a law degree.  I was intrigued by the seminar style teaching and the cohort activities, and the opportunity to study alongside classmates with diverse career backgrounds. In addition, having studied a Bachelor of Dental Science for 5 years, the idea of an accelerated degree was particularly appealing.

The JD program was a positive experience which equipped me with the skills I needed to pursue a career in a commercial law firm.  I am currently working at Baker & McKenzie, an international commercial law firm with approximately 70 offices in 38 countries.  I worked for a short stint in the firm’s London office and am now a general associate in the corporate/commercial group of the Melbourne office.

The Melbourne JD, like any course, requires dedication and commitment.  However, the rewards are boundless.  As a Melbourne JD alumna I have found that my degree is widely respected, and has opened many doors for me within the legal community.

I am currently studying my Master of Laws at Melbourne University. My JD experience has now come full circle - I look forward to mentoring an incoming JD student in 2009.
