Dr  Martin  Vranken    
   

Dr Martin N.A. Vranken is an Associate Professor and Reader in law. He holds degrees from the universities of Leuven in Belgium (Candidature in Law, 1975; Licentiate in Law, 1978; Doctorate in Law, 1983) and Yale in the USA (LLM, 1984). Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Melbourne in 1991, he held academic positions at the University of Leuven in Belgium (1979 -1985) and Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand (1985 - 1991). At one time he was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge (Wolfson Hall) and York University (Osgoode Hall Law School). In recent years he has been appointed a Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Leuven (Spring term 2001) and at Washington & Lee University (Fall term 2002). In 2006 he taught short courses on comparative labour law for Louisiana State University (Summer programme held at the University of Lyon 3 in France) and at the University of Virginia. In that same year he was appointed a Visiting Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore where he taught an intensive course on European codified systems of law.

Past research output encompasses five authored books, one co-authored book, and a further four edited books or monographs. In addition, Vranken has written 23 book chapters, 33 articles in scholarly refereed journals as well as 49 shorter notes, comments and book reviews in journals with a professional editorial board. His current research includes a commissioned book on European Civil Law (Federation Press). Major publications include:
